News Corp Australia's head of advertising tech steps down amid restructuring

Paul Luckett has left the company after his role as head of advertising technology and commercial innovation was affected by a recent round of job cuts at Murdoch-owned media company News Corp Australia.

The cuts will allow for a restructuring of the business, which is divided into three nationally centralized divisions: Metro Title, Free Service and Prestige.

Luckett confirmed his firing in a LinkedIn post on Friday.

“I arrived at NCA almost seven years ago with one goal: to transform the way News Corp Australia thought about and practiced advertising technology. When I arrived, the Ad Tech function did not exist and I was given the privilege and honour to build it from scratch. Doing so alongside fantastic managers and legendary employees has been the highlight of my career to date. While the function we built has come to an end, I am proud of what we achieved during our time together,” Luckett wrote.

Luckett joined News Corp Australia in 2017 as senior tech manager and was promoted to head of commercial advertising technology the following year, before being promoted to the combined role of head of advertising technology and commercial innovation and global advertising technology strategy lead in 2022.

Others said to be affected by the media cuts include news.com.au editor-in-chief Lisa Maxworthy and News Corp's group director of the editorial innovation centre John McGourty.

News Corp Australia did not respond to Mi3's request for comment.
