Tamil Nadu Technology Hub launches first Deep Tech Network

Tamil Nadu Technology Hub (iTNT Hub) is leveraging the collective strength of startups, innovators, researchers, incubators, academia, government agencies and international partners to drive transformative global innovation and build a deep-tech innovation network.

The iTNT Hub, set up by the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY, Government of India) and Department of Information Technology and Digital Services (IT&DS, Government of India) with industry support, will host its first iTNT Day in Chennai on July 11.

The event will be a prime platform to showcase Tamil Nadu's emerging and deep tech capabilities and is expected to see over 50 Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) signed, facilitating collaboration with large global corporations, innovation hubs, startup accelerators and leading educational institutions.

“This event will set the course for our groundbreaking efforts in 2024-25 and shape the future of deep tech and emerging technology startups in Tamil Nadu,” said Tmt. Vanitha Venugopal, CEO, iTNT Hub.

The event will feature a keynote address by Minister of IT and Digital Services Dr Palanivel Tyaaga Rajan and will feature interaction with industry leaders, academics and startup founders.

“I call on industry leaders to help nurture the deep tech sector in Tamil Nadu,” stressed Dr Rajan.

Additionally, MeitY Secretary S. Krishnan will share his views on the upcoming National Deep Tech Startup Policy, which aims to boost innovation across sectors. Additional Secretary, IT and Digital Services Dheeraj Kumar will outline the efforts undertaken by the ministry to strengthen the deep tech ecosystem in Tamil Nadu.

The exchange of over 50 MoUs was a key highlight of iTNT Day, facilitating collaborations with global corporates and innovators. These agreements are expected to foster an emerging and deep tech environment in Tamil Nadu and advance the region's innovation capabilities.

One of the key highlights of the day will be a thought-provoking panel discussion on technology transfer of patented research from academics to companies and the role of academia, startups, government and industry in intellectual property and technology transfer for deep tech innovation. The panel will feature prominent patent owners, startups, legal and government officials and aims to drive innovation through patented technologies by connecting researchers with startups and companies.

What is iTNT Hub?

The iTNT Hub was established by the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY, Government of India) and the Department of Information Technology and Digital Services of India (IT&DS, Government of India) as a pioneering initiative to create a deep-tech innovation network. Inaugurated by Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin in May 2023, the Hub will operate out of Sir CV Raman Science Block on the Anna University campus in Kotturpuram, Chennai.

The hub will focus on sectors like Artificial Intelligence, IoT, Space Technology, Robotics, Healthcare, Cybersecurity, Creative Technology and High Value SaaS. It will help nurture, accelerate and promote startups alongside co-incubating startups from deep tech incubators across Tamil Nadu. During the recent Budget session, Dr. Rajan announced the upcoming Tamil Nadu Deep Tech Policy to anchor this first of its kind policy in India.
