It looks like Microsoft is making it easier for Game Pass subscribers to stream games via Nvidia GeForce Now, in reality it's just going to make the process more complicated.

When you visit the Xbox.com website as a Game Pass Ultimate subscriber, you'll be presented with the option to play through cloud gaming, which includes two options: Microsoft's own Xbox cloud gaming service or GeForce Now, as shown below.

GeForce Now is a much better service than Microsoft's streaming service in general, offering 4K resolution and much better graphics performance for players who subscribe to the Ultimate tier.

However, if you choose to launch GeForce Now from the Xbox website, you'll just be redirected to the GeForce Now website, where you won't get all the graphical benefits it has to offer — you'll need the GeForce Now app for that, making the link from the Xbox website almost pointless.

Barry Collins Download the GeForce Now app. It's available for PC and Mac. Once you're logged into the GeForce Now app, open Settings and connect your Xbox account to GeForce Now. In Games, you'll see a list of PC Game Pass games available to stream via GeForce Now, as shown in the screenshot above.

This means you can take advantage of the best performance GeForce Now has to offer, and you can tweak more settings than are available in the web browser version linked to the Xbox site.

However, not everything runs smoothly when trying to play Game Pass games using Nvidia's streaming service.

For example, Far Cry 5 and Far Cry 6 are both listed among the PC Game Pass games available to stream using GeForce Now, but when you try to launch the game, it tells you that in order to play it, the PC digital version must be in your Ubisoft Connect library, with no option to select your Xbox library instead.

To stream these games, you'll need to head over to the Xbox Cloud Gaming site and launch the games from there, but this means putting up with the poor streaming quality offered by Microsoft's own service.

DLC can also be an annoying hurdle to overcome when trying to play Game Pass titles via GeForce Now. For example, I'm playing Crusader Kings III via Game Pass and purchased the game's DLC pack via the Microsoft Store.

DLC packs mostly work fine if you have the game installed locally on your PC, but getting them to work on GeForce Now is a pain, and they might not even be immediately available on the streaming service, meaning you'll have to wait days or even weeks for the DLC to be available to stream.

It can also be difficult to convince streaming services that you've actually purchased the DLC; you often have to log into various services multiple times before they acknowledge that you actually own the pack in question.

My advice: Streaming Game Pass games via GeForce Now is generally fine if you only plan on playing the base games, but be very careful about investing in DLC via the Microsoft Store if you plan on streaming games.
