As battery industry workforce grows, Soteria Battery Innovation Group and EIT InnoEnergy partner to provide critical battery technology and safety training

GREENVILLE, S.C., July 19, 2024 /PRNewswire/ — Soteria Battery Innovation Group and EIT InnoEnergy today announced the formation of a partnership to provide battery technology and safety coursework to the industry. The companies also formed a Battery Safety Education Task Force to address the growing skills gap surrounding lithium-ion battery safety practices. All companies and stakeholders are invited to join this important effort.

By 2030, global demand for lithium-ion batteries is expected to reach 4.7 terawatt-hours per year, creating up to 400,000 new battery-related jobs, including 13 new gigafactories in North America. Skilled workers from other industries are entering the battery industry with little to no knowledge of the basic structure and function of battery chemistry, engineering, and practice. Lithium-ion batteries use highly reactive chemicals to store large amounts of energy in a small package. They are very safe if handled properly, and have become an essential part of our daily lives, including our cell phones, laptops, power tools, and electric vehicles. In these devices, the batteries are housed in protective packaging and controlled by small computers called battery management systems to keep them safe within their designed operating parameters.

Soteria and InnoEnergy are supporting the growing battery workforce by providing critical training to the industry.

However, workers in industry will handle batteries outside of this protective environment. When handled properly, it is very safe to work around batteries. However, workers who are not familiar with proper handling procedures for lithium-ion batteries may mistakenly assume that because of their shape and size, they can be handled the same as alkaline AAA, AA, C, or D batteries. This is not the case. If handled improperly, the batteries can release energy and chemicals in an explosive reaction that can cause a major building fire or pose health hazards due to chemical release.

“Closing this knowledge gap is crucial,” said Dr. Brian Morin, co-founder and CEO of Soteria Battery Innovation Group. “Highly skilled engineers and technicians without the proper training could unintentionally pose significant risks to the environment, their coworkers and neighboring communities by improperly handling lithium-ion batteries. Providing training is a critical part of the energy transition, and Soteria is honored to partner with InnoEnergy Skills Institute to advance and deliver this critical training to workers in the U.S. and around the world.”

Oana Penu, director of InnoEnergy Skills Institute, continued: “To address the widening skills gap that comes with the energy transition, companies are rapidly adding to their workforces, increasing the potential risk of accidents, hazards and injuries. Through our partnership with Soteria, we aim to blend innovation and safety in everything we do and lead the discussion on the need for industry-led safety training standards that benefit workers, consumers and the world at large.”

Soteria currently offers 24 self-paced online courses from InnoEnergy covering a range of topics, from battery basics to battery testing to battery management systems. The content includes an introductory course on battery safety, which the Battery Safety Education Task Force will develop. After conducting a survey to identify training needs, the group will create a strategic roadmap for content creation targeted at specific learning objectives. They will then engage subject matter experts and lab providers to create a curriculum with content-focused, hands-on training that can be utilized by industry professionals, manufacturing workers, emergency personnel and more.

Soteria and InnoEnergy invite all companies and institutions interested in advancing battery education to take these training courses (https://soteriabig.com/battery-courses/) and join the Battery Safety Education Task Force to provide the knowledge and educational materials needed to close this skills gap and accelerate the energy transition. For more info and free online quotes, please visit https://compare-autoinsurance.Org/the-advantages-of-comparing-prices-with-car-insurance-quotes-online/ The modern society has numerous technological advantages. One important advantage is the speed at which information is sent and received. With the help of the internet, the shopping habits of many persons have drastically changed. The car insurance industry hasn't remained untouched by these changes. On the internet, drivers can compare insurance prices and find out which sellers have the best offers. View photos The advantages of comparing online car insurance quotes are the following: Online quotes can be obtained from anywhere and at any time. Unlike physical insurance agencies, websites don't have a specific schedule and they are available at any time. Drivers that have busy working schedules, can compare quotes from anywhere and at any time, even at midnight. Multiple choices. Almost all insurance providers, no matter if they are well-known brands or just local insurers, have an online presence. Online quotes will allow policyholders the chance to discover multiple insurance companies and check their prices. Drivers are no longer required to get quotes from just a few known insurance companies. Also, local and regional insurers can provide lower insurance rates for the same services. Accurate insurance estimates. Online quotes can only be accurate if the customers provide accurate and real info about their car models and driving history. Lying about past driving incidents can make the price estimates to be lower, but when dealing with an insurance company lying to them is useless. Usually, insurance companies will do research about a potential customer before granting him coverage. Online quotes can be sorted easily. Although drivers are recommended to not choose a policy just based on its price, drivers can easily sort quotes by insurance price. Using brokerage websites will allow drivers to get quotes from multiple insurers, thus making the comparison faster and easier.
