Google Pixel 9 Pro Fold display specs leaked with major changes

The upcoming Google Pixel 9 Pro Fold (which will be called the Pixel Fold 2) is a significantly different device from its predecessor, and we now have a closer look at its display specs.

Effectively book-style foldables take different approaches to aspect ratios: Samsung has gone for a very tall and narrow outer display to accommodate the taller inner display, while other brands have kept the outer display much closer to a traditional smartphone, resulting in an inner display that is wider or nearly square.

With the original Pixel Fold, Google took an entirely different approach, opting for an ultra-wide inner display and a short, wide outer display. As a result, while the outer display felt great to use, as we noted in our review, the inner panel often felt a bit too wide for typing and other activities.

With the Pixel 9 Pro Fold, Google has settled for something somewhere in between.

Leaked display specs from Android Authority have revealed some likely features for the Pixel 9 Pro Fold, starting with an 8-inch diagonal internal display, which is up from the original's 7.6-inch panel and even larger than the OnePlus Open's 7.82-inch internal display. The display will reportedly support a 2152 x 2076 resolution, 1,600 nits peak brightness (up from the disappointingly dim 1,000 nits on the previous model), and a 120Hz refresh rate.

There's no word on what the display crease will look like, but the panel itself appears to be a major improvement.

Meanwhile, the outer display is significantly taller as a result: the 6.24-inch panel is 0.4 inches larger diagonally than the original, and has a resolution of 1080 x 2424. Peak brightness is also higher, at 1,800 nits.

These display sizes were first leaked back in March.

Gone is the “chunky” feel of the original, and the new model will likely look more like the OnePlus Open. The aspect ratio is a bit narrower than the OnePlus Open (1116 x 2484), but wider than the Galaxy Z Fold 6 (968 x 2376). Notably, this doesn't take into account the additional width of the device and hinge, which makes the Fold feel wider and taller in the hand than the dimensions of the display itself.

It should also be much thinner, with leaks from earlier this year suggesting the device will be just 10.54mm thick when folded, making it thinner than the OnePlus Open and Samsung's new Galaxy Z Fold 6.

Google has already shown off the Pixel 9 Pro Fold's hardware in a video teaser, revealing that the internal display has been stripped of the original's thick top and bottom bezels. The hardware design also looks much more sleek overall, but oddly enough, it bears a striking resemblance to the hardware design of Oppo's Find N3 and OnePlus Open.

The Pixel 9 Pro Fold is scheduled to launch alongside the rest of the Pixel 9 series on August 13th.
