Jordan's Dr. Saleh Al Halabsheh promotes Arab-Japanese cooperation in green energy and innovation

Jordan's Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources, Dr. Saleh Al Halabsheh, reaffirmed the country's commitment to strengthening economic and social cooperation with Arab countries and Japan at the opening ceremony of the 5th Japan-Arab Economic Forum. Representing the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, which holds the presidency of the League of Arab States' Economic and Social Council, Dr. Al Halabsheh delivered a keynote speech highlighting the historic and continuing cooperation between the Arab world and Japan.

In his speech, Al-Halabsheh highlighted the Forum's focus on energy transition and environmental sustainability, underscoring that these areas are crucial in addressing today's global challenges. He said that the transition to sustainable energy sources, the adoption of green technologies and environmental protection are strategic and moral imperatives to ensure the well-being of future generations.

Al Halabshe also noted the transformative role that technological advances such as artificial intelligence and digital transformation will play in revolutionizing the energy sector, stressing that such innovations are key to achieving more sustainable energy practices and strengthening environmental stewardship.

The Minister praised the successful partnership between Arab countries and Japan that has fostered the exchange of knowledge, technology and expertise, as well as cultural and educational exchanges that have deepened mutual understanding and enriched both societies.

Looking to the future, Al-Halabsheh expressed optimism about opportunities for further cooperation between Japan and Arab countries. He hopes that discussions and collaboration at the forum will strengthen ties, inspire new initiatives, and promote projects that benefit both society and the environment.

The 5th Japan-Arab Economic Forum, to be held in Tokyo on 10-11 July 2024, is a flagship event organized by the League of Arab States Secretariat in collaboration with the Japanese Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry and Japan External Trade Organization (JETRO). Established on the basis of a Memorandum of Cooperation signed in 2009, the Forum serves as a platform for dialogue and aims to strengthen economic relations through cooperation in trade, investment, energy, technology and human resource development.

The Forum's agenda includes discussions on energy security, digital infrastructure, innovation and sustainable economic development. It will bring together Ministers from various sectors, including energy, trade, industry and economy, to address key issues of mutual interest and explore opportunities for future cooperation.
