Zoom for iOS shares data with Facebook even if a user does not have a Facebook account: report

The Zoom video conferencing application has grown in popularity since people were forced to work from home due to the coronavirus epidemic. Zoom Privacy policy does not clarify matters

An iOS researcher and founder of a privacy app called Guardian, Will Strafach, also confirmed the report’s findings, which also say there is nothing in Zoom’s privacy policy that deals with this data transfer .

Zoom’s privacy policy states that the company may collect a user’s Facebook profile information when you use Facebook to log in. But that doesn’t mention anything about sending data to Facebook on users who don’t even have a Facebook account.

Facebook told Vice that developers need to be transparent about sending data to Facebook. Its privacy policy states that if an application or developer uses Facebook SDKs, they further represent and warrant that you have provided adequate and sufficient notice to users regarding the collection, sharing and use of customer data.

On the other hand, Zoom’s privacy policy indicates that our third party service providers and advertising partners automatically collect certain information about you when you use our products. However, Zoom’s privacy policy does not specifically mention it with respect to Facebook.

Citing a report from the Electronic Frontier Foundation (EFF), he said that hosts of Zoom calls can see whether participants have the chat window open or not.
