You can buy with the best foldable money

The Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 2 was the phone I was most looking forward to this year. This is because the company knew how much the company changed this device compared to the original Galaxy Fold. There were also obvious changes in the Galaxy Z Flip (and Flip 5G), so it was only a matter of time before the Galaxy Z Fold 2 came out.

And when the boy Samsung debuted the Galaxy Z Fold 2 earlier this month, there were certainly a lot of changes. In fact, it feels like a completely different device. It’s different from the successor to the Galaxy Fold smartphone released last year. I wrote it last week.

Now that I have time to use the Galaxy Z Fold 2 for a solid week, it’s time to put my thoughts into the device review. Let’s get started. Start with those displays.

These displays have been significantly improved

Perhaps the most important aspect of a folding phone is the display. The Galaxy Z Fold 2 also has two displays, both of which are significant improvements over previous models.

The front display is almost bezel-free. It’s still tall, but you can actually use it. On the original Galaxy Fold, the 4.6-inch display on the front was weird and almost unusable. I used the Cover Display a lot on my Galaxy Z Fold 2 and opened it on a big screen when I needed more space.

Its large internal display has also been significantly improved. The bezel is thin and there is no large notch on the right side. It’s also an Infinity-O display like a front display. This is an FHD + 120Hz display. So this isn’t the highest resolution display, but it will get the job done. And that’s what we need.

This display currently uses Samsung’s Ultra Thin Glass or UTG. It was first introduced on the Galaxy Z Flip earlier this year. The screen feels more natural when you operate the screen. But there is still a layer of plastic. This may be the reason why the S Pen is not supported on the Galaxy Z Fold 2. This is great for use with this larger display.

I really have only one complaint about the display here. And that’s the fact that neither has a really good aspect ratio. The front display is super tall. And the internal display is almost square. This makes watching YouTube quite difficult. Because there are big black bars at the top and bottom of the video. Multitasking is a bit better, but it’s narrow enough that it’s not big enough to use two apps side by side, and it’s barely usable.

I hope it will be a little wider when the next model gets closer. This will improve the aspect ratio of both displays. However, it should also be remembered that this is an early adopter phone, not a popular Galaxy Note 20 device.

Premium design

Don’t twist things here. The Galaxy Z Fold 2 is still a very early product and is in a brand new product category. So the design isn’t perfect, but it’s premium. For example, the phone isn’t folded perfectly flat, so there’s a small gap near the hinges. But it feels a few miles ahead of the original Galaxy Fold and it says something.

Samsung used almost the same design language as the Galaxy Note 20 series. Gives a glass back of the same style camera housing with the same glass mystic bronze color. I really feel it in my hand. And the hinges are also stronger. It doesn’t crunch like the original Galaxy Fold. Of course, part of this is due to the flex mode included in the Galaxy Z Fold 2, which allows you to open it halfway instead of halfway.

Battery life was really amazing

The battery life of the Galaxy Z Fold 2 was actually much more impressive than I had expected. Installing the same app gave better performance than the Galaxy Note 20 Ultra. Batteries of the same size. It goes without saying that the Galaxy Z Fold 2 also had a second display.

As always, everyone’s experience here will be different. However, I was able to get 5 hours of time on the screen quite easily. But the only thing Samsung’s software does is that battery stats run all day instead of the entire cycle. Therefore, a full charge in the middle of the day will not restart the cycle. it continues. In other words, it may have taken more than 5 hours to charge.

Of course, that software feature really only bugs reviewers, so Samsung may never remove it. But to measure battery life, it makes it a bit difficult for us.

Nonetheless, the battery life of the Galaxy Z Fold 2 is very good and you’ll have no problem spending the day.

Samsung also ships with a 25W charger. This is a good way to charge this phone fairly quickly. It can be charged in just over an hour. It’s really good to pinch.

Snapdragon 865+ is not disappointed

Inside the Galaxy Z Fold 2 is a Snapdragon 865+ and 12 GB of RAM (and 256 GB of storage). It makes it a pretty fast smartphone. And the Snapdragon 865+ won’t disappoint. Of course, I saw the Snapdragon 865+ on the Galaxy Note 20 Ultra just a few weeks ago, so I knew what to expect here. But it’s still nice to see it fold and work well.

The Galaxy Z Fold 2 didn’t slow down by a bit even after playing heavy games. Speaking of games, playing something like Asphalt 9 on the Galaxy Z Fold 2’s 7.6-inch display is awesome. Even with its strange aspect ratio, it still looks great. Also, the Snapdragon 865+ stays pretty cool while playing.

Always say how much RAM a Samsung device needs because of how heavy the software is. Well, I don’t think it is anymore. During this review of the Galaxy Z Fold 2 and when using the Galaxy Note 20 Ultra, I didn’t run out of RAM or use all 12 GB. I usually had 2GB of RAM free. And since unused RAM is wasted RAM, it’s good to see.

One UI is foldable optimized

That’s why when the Galaxy Fold came out last year, Samsung began optimizing its software for this new form factor. They took this over a year and introduced four devices, so we’ve actually made some big changes here.

We’ve already talked about flex mode. This allows you to use your phone like your own kickstand. A place that is open at a 90 degree angle (or a wider angle if needed). Then you’ll see half of the app on one side and the other half on the other side. This sounds great, but it’s not really that good. Suitable for YouTube etc. Because you can watch videos without having a smartphone. But with something like a camera, it’s a bit impractical. Half of the screen is the viewfinder and the bottom half has controls. It takes some getting used to, but I don’t like using the camera.

It goes without saying that Flex mode is not available in most apps.

Split screen multitasking is realized. It’s not perfect yet, but it’s the one I’ve used more than any other phone I’ve ever used on the Galaxy Z Fold 2. Using apps side by side is a much better idea than using them up and down. Because of the size of this screen. It’s a little more natural. Of course, there are some apps that don’t work in multiple windows. Yes, we are looking for your Instagram! But that’s okay. Most apps run and that’s important. Samsung can also save a group of apps in multiple windows so you can easily restart them. However, this is not a feature specific to the Galaxy Z Fold 2.

The S Pen is great on the Galaxy Z Fold 2, but I know why it’s not supported, but not yet. Because the screen is still delicate. Samsung is made of plastic, so don’t press hard on the inner display. Not suitable for plastic displays. This is why the S Pen is not supported. This is because using the S Pen will kill the display. Hopefully, in the future, you’ll get a S Pen toting Galaxy Z Fold device.

The camera is better than the Galaxy Note 20 Ultra

We have all heard this phrase. Just because you have a lot of megapixels doesn’t mean that your image will look good. In fact, former Pixel Camera head Marc LeVoy said in a new interview this week. And with the Galaxy Z Fold 2, that’s definitely true.

The Galaxy Z Fold 2 has three rear cameras, all 12 megapixels. There is a main sensor, an ultra wide sensor, and a telephoto sensor. It’s very different from Samsung’s 108 megapixel sensor on the “Ultra” smartphone released this year. The Galaxy Z Fold 2 produces much better images than the Galaxy Note 20 Ultra. Even at 12 megapixels.

The Galaxy Note 20 Ultra’s 108-megapixel sensor actually produces a 12-megapixel image. Basically, take nine 12-megapixel images and overlay them. Therefore, comparing the two does not lose any detail. But the Galaxy Z Fold 2 camera is just that good. Autofocus and shutter speed are much better. And night mode is pretty nice.

But the best thing about this camera on the Galaxy Z Fold 2 is that you can use the rear camera for selfies. The rear camera of the phone is always better than the front camera. There is no way around it, it’s just physics. But with the Galaxy Z Fold 2, you can point the viewfinder at the front display and look at yourself while taking a selfie with the rear camera. Look at the camera, not the display.

Taking such a selfie is a bit strange, and I don’t recommend vlogging that way, but it’s possible.

Below is a sample camera for the Galaxy Z Fold 2. All of these are unedited and shot in automatic mode (or night mode). Pro mode is not used in these photos.

Need to buy a Galaxy Z Fold 2?

I love the Galaxy Z Fold 2, but its price tag is still a bit difficult to swallow. That’s why it’s a little easier to swallow. You are basically buying a smartphone and tablet with this $ 1999 price tag. That’s about the same price as buying a high-end smartphone or high-end tablet. But it’s one device, and convenience may make this something you buy for you.

If you’re not a tablet user, I recommend waiting for another generation or two. Wait for the technology to get better. That way, the price of these foldable parts will go down.

I’m really excited to see where the foldable folding machine is in a year or two. Samsung laid a lot of ground less than 18 months after the first Galaxy Fold was released. So I’m already crazy about the Galaxy Z Fold 3 and I can’t even buy the Galaxy Z Fold 2 yet (pre-orders until September 18th only).
