Marvels Avengers Review-Good Things You Should Do (PS4)

Published

on

Marvels Avengers is a game of war with itself. From the moment you move to the main menu of the game, you’ll see two main options: Campaign and Avengers Initiative. The campaign will capture the cutscene-fueled, set-piece-filled Avengers main story featuring Kamala Khan aka Ms. Marvel, who reunites with The Avengers to counter the threat posed by ATMs to society. The Avengers Initiative is a predatory-centric multiplayer mode focused on refining character levels and recreating different missions to transform a team of campaign-level superheroes into a powerful team that challenges every challenge. Still, it’s strange that these options are separated when they are in the same game.

There are many examples of both good and bad loot games, continuous and evolving online experiences, but they are designed around a gameplay loop where growing problems recur. The Destiny franchise is a potential roller coaster ride, Division is famous for making the military third-person shooter a booty-based cooperative game like Diablo, and BioWares Anthem is probably the biggest failure in the game. Is one of the categories. Marvel’s Avengers evokes three or more of these games. But as Kamala Khan’s father tells her, the good thing is not that you do, but what you do.

The Marvel’s Avengers campaign weaves the story awkwardly in loot-based gameplay, but it’s about 10 hours thrilling. Focusing on Kamala as one of them as a super fan of The Avengers is the ultimate player fantasy. She’s literally us, a vehicle for millionaire geniuses, super-spies, or players who don’t have to give up their distrust to become the god of characters from another realm. This process of onboarding throws this superhero team into a whole new light. Her comment on how cool the fight against the Avengers in battle is, is what we all want to say. It balances the level of cheese that might have been possible and is rather adorable instead.

It’s also great to see characters like the front and center of Kamala in the story. Her Muslim roots were set aside and became an important part of costume design, often mentioned in conversations with other Avengers. Still, it didn’t feel like Crystal Dynamics was just trying to check the box. A natural part of the Marvel’s Avengers story is Kamala, which has a very rare balance in recent games.

Exciting set pieces highlight an important part of the campaign, and the gaming world is evolving around you and showing your progress. From the main menu to the roster of heroes (and showing customized cosmetics), a little glimpse of the way the Avengers want, from the non-flying to the base of key operations from a fully functional helicopter. Seems to grow up. The story isn’t particularly surprising and is full of unexpected twists. One of the main beats is definitely pretty obvious if you know what you’re doing in a way that surprises me at least a little.

The campaign serves as a tour of heroes and as an introduction to many of the Marvel’s Avengers main concepts, but some heroes play a much more important role and others don’t get any attention in the main story. (Thor who saw you). The story continues after the campaign, but with a set of iconic mission chains unique to each hero and another storyline to start setting up the Avengers world, these missions have cutscenes and set pieces. We started working on the long-term side of the game in a bigger way, assigning tasks to players rather than a clear story through.

Marvel’s Avengers review was now late

Marvels Avengers was launched about two weeks ago, but it’s a game intended to last for a long time. We wanted to give enough time to settle down to the final verdict. And that meant really engaging in the endgame loops, loot smashing, and myriad systems that Marvels Avengers had.

In the campaign, the Avengers are like a typical fighter. Each character feels reasonably different, but most often has roughly the same abilities based on support, assault-centric special moves and super attacks, each with a light, heavy, long-range attack in the cooldown. I will. However, after the campaign, these characters will actually become their own when you level up and unlock each kit completely. Every 5-10 levels, the character feels basically playing differently, enhancing its abilities and giving the player the option to adjust each play style. By the time you reach level 50, your character will be barely recognized, unlike the low-level heroes used in the campaign. Reaching that 50 and spending a fair amount of time with each avenger, this process of making them feel unique empowers the fantasy that each particular hero accompanies. The factor is insufficient prior communication.

Then polish your gear and build your power level. This is something I’m too familiar with in games like Destiny 2 and The Division 2. The biggest problem with Marvels Avengers so far for me is that the loot hasn’t felt special yet. There is no gear that stands out as a must-have item. Although it appears to the character as a holographic image on the equipment screen, in reality no loot has any effect on the aesthetics of each character. This is a big attraction for other loot-based games. I understand that this limitation may be due to Marvel. Cosmetics are forced to unlock, buy, and equip complete outfit changes. But it makes the plunder feel almost meaningless without a visual reflection of the gear you’re earning. I don’t know what the best solution looks like here. It’s a way to combine current clothing-based cosmetic systems to visually impact loot, but Crystal Dynamics needs to provide a great incentive to not only increase numbers, but also polish cool things. think.

Another problem is that the Marvels Avengers are currently lacking in all sorts of true endgame challenges that players can even gear in. There is no equivalent to Destiny or The Division 2s Raids. Its currently offered set of missions is a small piece of disjointed nodes on a world map that probably makes no sense to the average player. Each of these loads you into the same environment without the notable set pieces from the story and fights the malicious crowd of AIM. The purpose can vary from place to place, but we hope it feels like a curated experience, rather than something like a procedurally generated forest or a typical tech facility. The overall endgame loop is fun enough, but the reason hasn’t been clarified yet.

To be fair, the division didn’t start with a raid (and the first one was a bad grind against the bullet sponge boss) and Destiny initially before the Vault of Glass Raid opened up a world of possibilities. Because of the franchise that disappointed many players, but the Marvels Avengers need to devote themselves to their long-term loot-based planning and begin to define the challenges players undertake. Another way is what happened to Anthem, who lacked the real kind of endgame challenges and chase for players to enjoy. It’s great to add new characters, stories, and places, but it gives players a reason and place to get the most out of these characters, and a way to challenge all the elements they’ve learned. Must be provided. Perhaps it will come, but it needs to be communicated immediately.

Marvel Avengers Review Growing Pain

In fact, the entire Avengers initiative after the game’s campaign is not yet fully understood. A series of great concepts based on other loot-based games that reveal some lessons that Crystal Dynamics should learn. Games like Division and Destiny have had many years of growth, evolution and development. By comparison, it’s clear that Marvels Avengers is just beginning to follow this path. It’s a canvas of possibilities, but the real test is to see what they do with it. The community has already issued a great deal of feedback on quality of life issues that need to be fixed. Crystal Dynamics has already addressed some issues through updates since the game was launched. And at least we have a roadmap for future support, and now the focus is mainly on adding characters in new story missions and locations.

What really saves the whole thing is that playing Marvels Avengers is a lot of fun. Yes, I grin and sigh a little when I come down to another mapping of tech corridors that reflects the mission I last played. And surely, I’m tired of seeing the same forested area hiding another AIM facility, but calling thunder, banging enemies such as Kamala with a huge fist, or hulking a huge mass of ground. When chucking as, I forget everything. Again, the game will definitely be a lot of fun, especially as these characters level up, even if they do less and see less.

Monetization also exists at Marvel’s Avengers, but it rarely feels like a focus at all. Yes, there is a market for cool things that you can buy for real money, such as emotes, nameplates, costumes, finishers, but their presence is strongly related to the background. You need to actively look for it to find it. It comes with challenge cards like the battle passes of individual heroes. It can be completed by completing a challenge card or paying for it and offers a range of hero-specific cosmetics, but the overall system is complementary. It’s never on your face, and if you want to ignore the overall monetization and cosmetic aspects of Marvel’s Avengers, you can easily. This is probably a good thing, given how expensive some of the hero costumes are.

One of the biggest things I can’t help with is what the PS5 version offers in comparison when playing on the PS4. I feel that the current generation consoles also hold down Marvel’s Avengers to some extent. Sure, Marvel wanted a broader install base here, but the game could really benefit from another delay to launch with the next-generation console. Playing on a standard launch PS4 has caused a number of performance issues and bugs, but community consensus seems to indicate that it’s not limited to playing on a launch PS4. I would like to know how the next generation version of the game will work. And remembering that it was only two weeks from the start of the long-running game, I’m curious about what the Marvel Avengers will look like next-generation launch, six months later, or by this time next year. ..

For all my criticisms, the Marvel Avengers still can’t wait to get back into the game and play. There are many things to do, but there is one main thing. It’s fun to be an avenger. Crystal Dynamics has captured this incredible feeling of being a superhero and distilled it into a digital environment. The battles are deep and nuanced, much more complex and individual than traditional superhero fighters. At the moment, Marvels Avengers are a bit rough on the edge, but you may not. That’s what you do. If Crystal Dynamics can smooth performance, eliminate bugs, and build a more compelling endgame experience, it will be one of the most memorable and playable loot of this and next generations. There are many possibilities.

Marvels Avengers will review the code provided by the publisher. The latest version as of the publication date reviewed on the standard release PS4. See our review policy for more information on scoring.

7.5 Great Campaign The Avengers are a lot of fun to play Growth and evolution room Crystal Dynamics is already paying attention to the community and updating the game Quality of life issues need to address numerous bugs There are no endgame challenges yet
