OnePlus co-founder, who wanted to be a Samsung intern, quits the company and starts his own venture

TechCrunch reports that certain Carl Pei, first known as the co-founder of the current smartphone giant known as OnePlus in his twenties, has now left the company.

The Importance of Carl Pei to OnePlus

Over the years, Pei has played a key role in actually designing the known OnePlus smartphone lineup. This included the company’s most memorable hit, the OnePlus Nord, which was just launched recently.

Other than Shenzhen, where the company is headquartered, the relatively young Pay is actually the face of this Chinese company, attending trade conferences and interacting with a variety of loyal customers. Also, it is usually Pay who participates in company interviews.

In the early days of the company, Pay actually devised multiple marketing strategies to find the best position for the company’s products and even create hype around them. In 2014 and 2015, when the known OnePlus had previously struggled to expand its inventory, the company actually sold the phone with simple invitations and other clever marketing techniques. It also reportedly included people breaking their current phone to buy a new OnePlus smartphone.

In the early days, Pay lived in certain low-priced hotels in both China and India to better understand the market and easily travel to new cities. OnePlus is currently one of the most successful premium smartphone manufacturers in India and several other markets.

In a previous interview with Carl Pei, the company didn’t have the proper product management it needed and had something to miss from experience, which allowed it to make up for the additional time. He also talked about the early days of OnePlus and the overall smartphone market situation at the known Disrupt 2019.

In 2015, Carl Pei publicly asked Samsung to hire him immediately to learn more about the oversight and logistics segment as a whole. He writes on his personal blog that he is honored to be an intern at the company to learn how to manage his business well. This was written on his personal blog.

Neither Pei nor OnePlus commented on the matter, but TechCrunch says Pei’s next move is to start his own venture.

According to a CNET article, the co-founder did not show that his name was not included in the actual internal memo listing OnePlus’ leadership. A screenshot of the memo was uploaded by a Reddit user and reported by Android police.
