How to set AppleWatch Schooltime for better focus

A welcome advance in the Apple Watch with watchOS 7 is the family setup. This is a feature that allows adults to configure wearables for children who do not have an iPhone. Family setup includes several features to help you manage your child’s device. Follow the AppleWatch Schooltime setup instructions.

Family setup on the Apple Watch is a great way for kids (or older parents) to stay connected without the need for their iPhone. And one of the new features focused on kids is school time mode (available to everyone).

This allows parents to schedule their Apple Watch school to maintain a simple yellow watch face that teachers and adults can easily recognize, and return to the classroom to learn even if the child is studying at home. You can use it even if you do.

In addition to the yellow watch face, School Time Mode turns on Silent Mode to limit interaction and allow the child (or anyone) to focus.

What you need to use Schooltime

If you want to use Schooltime on your Apple Watch, jump to the end of this post.

To set it on your child’s watch, you’ll need to use Family Sharing to set up an Apple ID account that connects to your child’s Apple Watch.

To use Schooltime, you’ll need to use Family Setup to set up your child’s Apple Watch (see here for more information on Family Setup). This requires a Cellular Apple Watch Series 4, 5, 6, or SE. Parents need at least an iPhone 6s or later running iOS 14 to set it up.

Note: If you’re running watchOS 7, you can also use Schooltime on your own Apple Watch.

How to set up Apple Watch Schooltime When you’re running your first family setup, you’ll be prompted if you want to set up Schooltime.
