BioMorph Lab receives two contracts with USAF
Louisiana Techs BioMorph Lab, led by Professor Dr. David Mills, recently received a pair of research contracts from the US Air Force that call for the development of an antimicrobial filament for the printing of medical devices 3D and a multifunctional bandage.
The antimicrobial filament is a bioplastic that contains agents to kill bacteria, fungi and other elements that cause infection. The bandage will be multifunctional because it can be used in combat, in a military hospital or for civilians. The bandage components will be printed.
This is the first time that the BioMorph laboratory has received a grant from the USAF, but the laboratory has received funding from the Ministry of Defense in the past.

The contract is classified in phase I, which is 90 days. Mills' main goal is to find a military medical partner for his Phase II proposal. More specifically, the research contracts are a collaboration between USAF, the Techs BioMorph laboratory and Mills two startups, OrganicNANA and Nano Medicine.
The BioMorph lab focuses on the development of nano-improved biomedical applications, including drug delivery, anticancer and antimicrobial medical devices, 3D-printed bioactive medical implants and bio-printed tissues for repairing bone defects.
Officially, the contracts are from the AFWERX program, implemented in 2017 by the Secretary of the Air Force and reporting to the Vice Chief of the Air Staff.
