Earlier this week, Microsoft released concept ideas it is exploring internally for the Windows 10 Start menu that would see it updated with an updated interface that keeps the tiles live but puts more emphasis on them. focus on new icon designs. It's a minor design refresh idea, but one that has caught the eye of many.
While I'm fully on board with wanting Microsoft to bring the Windows 10X Start menu to Windows 10, it looks like Microsoft isn't ready yet, and is instead exploring ways to improve the menu layout. Start on Windows 10 instead.
One of those ideas that Microsoft is studying is removing the system's accent color behind the tiles, making them slightly translucent with blurring effects and associating them with light and dark mode instead of having a color dedicated. This design is supposed to make the new Windows 10 icons more comfortable, because currently the new icons seem very out of place in the tile interface.
Microsoft says it won't be removing live tiles from Windows 10 soon, but I wouldn't be surprised if that's the way things go in the future. Microsoft has already removed the tiles live on all other versions of Windows 10, including Windows 10X. If MIcrosoft was really engaged in live tiles, they would bring them to each version of Windows. But this clearly does not happen.
The problem Microsoft is facing right now is that it cannot simply replace the old Start menu with that of Windows 10X. While technically possible, Microsoft also needs to do a lot of work elsewhere to keep the user experience consistent first, and Microsoft doesn't want to scare users with a huge new user interface change in the Start menu. This change must occur in incremental steps.
