USGS announces 3.9-magnitude ‘ eruption’ off Florida coast

PONS INLET, FL – The US Geological Survey (USGS) reported a shock about 100 miles off the coast of Ponce Inlet, Florida on Friday.

They measured the shock as a “pilot blast” of 3.9 magnitude.

According to Action News Jax, a Navy spokesperson confirmed that the reading was the result of military “shock experiments” and that it was not unusual for them to record earthquakes.

The US Navy issued a press release about the surprise trial of USS Gerald Ford on Friday. They said that the aircraft carrier successfully completed the test on the east coast of the United States. This is part of checking the ship’s ability to withstand battle conditions.

The ship won’t complete its first full ship shock trial until later this summer. After that, it will undergo six months of updating, maintenance, and repairs.
