Taipei, July 19 (CNA) Two earthquakes shook the eastern Taiwan city of Hualien within four minutes of Monday morning with no damage or injuries reported, according to the Central Meteorological Bureau (CWB).

The first 3.9-magnitude earthquake occurred at 2:40 a.m., with an epicenter 6.9 kilometers south-southwest of Hualien County, at a depth of 8.6 kilometers, according to the CWB Seismology Center.

The intensity of the earthquake, which measures its actual impact, was the highest in Hualien City, the CWB said, measuring 4 on the Taiwan 7-layer intensity scale.

The office added that the quake had a magnitude of 3.

The Seismology Center said the second 3.0-magnitude attack occurred at 2:44 a.m., centered 8.4 km southwest of Hualien County Hall, at a depth of 10.5 km.

The CWB said the earthquake’s intensity was highest in Hualien City and Yanliao, with a magnitude of 2.

Hualien City, a subduction zone comprising the Eurasian Plate and the Philippine Sea Plate, has in recent days experienced a series of tremors occurring as a rapid means of releasing energy.

Last Wednesday, about 30 earthquakes hit Hualien City between 6:52 a.m. and 11:59 a.m., with magnitudes ranging from 2.9 to 5.2.
