Floral Park residents gathered at a meeting on Monday to express their frustration with the work in progress for the LIRR Track Three Project.

“Severe shaking. It sounded like an earthquake. It felt like an earthquake, and everything started shaking,” says Gina Martinez, who lives parallel to the LIRR Hempstead Line.

Martinez says that in January, he started working on the track, and it’s been a huge headache for everyone. She says that workers have been in her backyard for months and that they have destroyed barriers and fences.

According to Martinez, the staircases and retaining wall in her home are cracking due to the heavy machinery used to complete the work.

“Lots of extra cracks and cement falling off, we’ve never had this,” Martinez says. “I have a car in the garage. I’m afraid it’s going to collapse. Things are falling off.

Martinez is just one of many residents who raised their concerns in the meeting with Three TC, the company that has been contracted to do the circuit work.

The company says it’s not adding additional tracks. She says workers are installing a switch that enables the train to move from one track to another.

Martinez says she understands that progress needs to be made and that changes come with that, but she wants transparency and communication.
