A 3.5-magnitude earthquake hits parts of Delhi-NCR, and no damage was reported

New Delhi Jagran News Office: A moderate intensity earthquake hit parts of Delhi – NCR Sunday afternoon. However, no loss of life or any kind of damage has been reported to date.

According to the National Seismology Center, the earthquake’s strength was 3.5 on the Richter scale and occurred at 1.45 pm at a depth of five kilometers.

Delhi is located under the fourth of the five earthquake regions.

After the earthquake, Delhi Prime Minister Arvind Kejriwal tweeted and prayed for the safety of everyone in the area. “I felt the tremors in Delhi. Pray for the safety of all,” Kejriwal said in a tweet.

This is the third earthquake in Delhi in less than a month. On April 12, a 3.5-magnitude earthquake struck Delhi and its vicinity. However, no damage was reported.

The earthquake occurred at 5.45 pm, and the epicenter was northwest of Delhi, at a depth of eight kilometers, latitude 28.7 north and longitude 77.2 east.

Then a day later, another earthquake measuring 2.7 on the Richter scale hit the national capital. However, there were no reports of any kind of damage. The National Seismology Center had said that the earthquake occurred at 1.26 pm at a depth of five kilometers.

Earthquakes in Delhi-NCR come at a time when people were staying at home due to the forced closure to contain the spread of coronavirus.

Last month, a fake message spread claiming that NASA had anticipated a strong earthquake could hit Delhi-NCR from April 7 to 15. However, the Press Information Office (PIB) examined the truth of the letter and found it to be fake.

“According to NASA’s assessment, a strong earthquake will happen in Delhi. #PIBFactCheck: Viral video is a reality analysis conducted by a news channel in 2018, which according to #FakeNews. No such prediction has been made by NASA,” the PIB fact-finding team tweeted .
