Stanley Lake Inlet Beach collapsed after a 6.5 magnitude earthquake

Geologists in Idaho determined that the flood of Lake Inlet Beach was consistent with the geological processes that occurred during the March 31 earthquake.

Claudio Bertie, director and state geologist at the Geological Survey of Idaho, said the most likely cause of the flood was “a mixture of liquefaction, pressure in saturated sediments, some potential slipping and lateral spread in the delta towards the deepest part of the lake”, causing water to cross the area.

“The loss of the entrance beach to hunting and recreation is unfortunate because the area was very popular with lake visitors,” said Brian Anderson, deputy guardian of the Sentinel area of ​​Sawtooth National Recreation Area. “Fortunately, the construction of the new ramp and the construction of the camp were completed prior to this event, ensuring that boats and camps move forward.”
