Olympic presenter still author as report on Tokyo earthquake

The presenter remained completely calm during an earthquake while reporting on the Olympics live on Wednesday morning.

Mark Beretta was broadcasting live from Tokyo on Australia’s most popular breakfast show, Sunrise, when his studio was hit by a “big” 30-second earthquake.

It was later confirmed that the earthquake recorded 6.0 on the Richter scale.

“Welcome back to Olympic City where we are currently in an earthquake,” Mark told the camera.

“The ceiling above us is moving and you may notice that the lights and the camera are moving as well,” he added.

Mark continued: “That was a completely unusual moment. I’ve never had an earthquake before.

“We’re about 10 stories high, we’re in a scaffolding tower in the house, here that’s made of structural steel because it’s earthquake-resistant, but it’s actually starting to vibrate and move.”

It took Mark a few moments before he realized that he was already suffering from an earthquake.

“I thought I was having some weird moments,” he told the Sunrise hosts. “I thought I was having a twisted gymnastics moment, losing my spatial awareness.”

The 6.0-magnitude earthquake hit the coast of Japan as the Japan Meteorological Society said there was no danger of a tsunami.
