LSU beat Auburn in 2007 over game-winning TD: “Flynn to Byrd”

Browse LSU football history books and you will encounter four national championships, 16 conference championships, two Heisman Award winners, and many amazing plays since the first season of Louisiana State University in 1893.

Billie Cannon’s “Halloween Run” and “Bluegrass Miracle” are classics that all LSU Tigers fans should have rooted in their memories. Additionally, anything from the Heisman award-winning season to Joe Burrow and the 1988 “Earthquake Game” against Auburn deserves appreciation.

But if we make a list of the greatest plays in school history, there is one that can never be left: Flynn died for Demetrius Bird to beat Auburn in 2007.

Let’s just refer to it as “Flynn to Bird”.

LSU season of 2007

The 2007 LSU Tigers team was loaded with players who moved to NFL. Glenn Dorsey won the Best Player Award in the Securities and Exchange Commission. Tyson Jackson and Craig Stilitz were also buttons. Midfielder Matt Flynn had game makers like Trindon Holliday, Brandon LaFell and Early Doucet at his disposal.

No wonder they will continue to win the national championship that season.

In the middle of the season, it was not clear. LSU destroyed their first three opponents – Mississippi State, Virginia Tech and Central Tennessee – with a combined score of 137-7.

Then it spanned six games, which looked as follows:

No. 12 South Carolina
In Tulane
No. 9 Florida
At No. 17 Kentucky
No. 18 Auburn
In No. 17 Alabama

After winning a battle against national champion defender Florida Gators at home, the Tigers fell to Kentucky in an additional trilogy. The loss was shrinking and questions were followed by their hopes for the national title.

They needed a bounce back. Pick me up. A sudden drop in the game that no one saw yet.

LSU vs. Auburn 2007

Midfielder Auburn Brandon Cox and LSU midfielder Matt Flynn landed passes in the first quarter, keeping the match close at 7. As a result of the rush in Karl Stewart and field goal Wes Perum put Auburn ahead, 17-7, at the end of the second quarter.

LSU scored after halftime with Colt David’s two goals in the third quarter, lowering Auburn’s lead to 17-13. She put Flynn’s running back to back Jacob Hester and David’s 33-yard goal at LSU stadium in front, 23-17, before Auburn advanced and scored one point ahead, leaving nearly three minutes in the fourth quarter.

Cork and tiger crime comfortably drove down the field to the Auburn area. On the first 10 of Auburn’s 25-yard line with 1:28 to go, LSU sat pretty. All you need is a simple field goal. Nothing fancy.

LSU coach Lee Miles didn’t seem urgent. Let the clock run in every play. Everyone at Tiger Stadium and Baton Rouge are preparing for the deadline and Colt David’s inevitable attempt at the field goal. Could it be the hero?

Miles said not so fast.

Flynn shocked Auburn’s defense and fell again to pass. She was allowed to fly to the sidelines for a wide reception by Demetrius Byrd, who was one to one with the return of Auburn’s two pillars of Gerod Powers.

Bird hit him and carried him to land. soccer.

“Shake the stadium,” Baird told AL.com. “So it was crazy. I wish they had a seismograph because he would have recorded … All that Matt Flynn had to do was throw him over to Mr. Klatch, and Mr. Klatch did it. I cannot thank him enough for giving me the opportunity.”

Mr. Clatch, already.

Will Muschamp, Auburn’s defense coordinator at the time who was just three years ago on the sidelines of LSU, didn’t see her coming either. Called operating pressure.

“Give them credit, they took a chance in the final zone to try to win the match … They played when they needed it and Jerudud was in a position to play.” I will take my chance again with Jerraud Powers and I will assure you of that, “Muschamp told AL.com.

Myles is known to take risks in football matches throughout his career, and on October 20, 2007, his coach, Tommy Tupperville, was completely arrested.

LSU fans remember how the rest of the season went, of course. The Tigers soccer team lost an additional triple game to Arkansas but defeated Tennessee in the SEC Championship match. Then they overpowered Ohio State in the BCS National Championship to win the second NCAA National Championship in five seasons.

The play, the call of the college football season, is it all set? Flynn died for Demetrius Bird in the 2007 LSU-Auburn match.
