Haiti earthquake puts Omaha woman and orphanage foundation on edge

OMAHA, NE (WOWT) – As the search for survivors of a 7.2-magnitude earthquake in Haiti continues, a local woman is breathing a sigh of relief.

“It brought back memories of what happened to the people of Haiti in 2010 and it was utter devastation,” said Connie Krueger, founder of Haiti Orphanage Partners.

“With the turmoil and the place the Cite Soleil orphanage was in and the violence and gangs moving in, we really felt we had to get the kids out of there,” Krueger said, noting that the decision was made to move north.

Unknowingly, this move got them out of harm’s way in more ways than one, allowing them to escape the worst of the earthquake.

“I was completely relieved to find out that they were safe,” Krueger said.
