Donation campaign “Operation Haiti” to send supplies to Haiti after the earthquake

Just a week ago, an earthquake devastated Haiti, a woman organized a campaign to help the people of Haiti.

Nancy Plaside has family on the island and says it’s her personal mission to come forward and help.

More than 2,000 people were killed, buildings were destroyed and smoke rose from under the rubble after a 7.2-magnitude earthquake struck Haiti. A Placide family member shared a video with WINK News, and for her, it’s hard to see so much devastation in a loved one.

“Haiti just can’t take a break,” she said.

Plaside has been in contact with her relatives on the island. And while they’re fine, she knows there are many Haitians who can’t say the same.

“Our family members were not directly affected and so … it is our duty to help other family members who have none,” said Plaside.

Therefore, I decided to organize “Operation Haiti” which is a donation drive to help the people on the island. For several hours on Saturday, Placid set up a tent on Lehigh Acres so people could pass. Donate clothes, water and other necessities. Really everything they wanted to donate to help the needy.

“It’s been a blessing for people to stop what they’re doing, you know, take their time, it’s time to drop things,” Blaside said. She says she always wanted to help others and make a difference.

Nancy’s mother, Tata, who is from Haiti, told her it was time to act. “I watched my mom do this. I grew up helping her pack boxes and ditch my dress shoes no matter what,” Nancy said.

“We will do everything we can, God will show us what is possible, donations, we can help the region,” Tata said.

Nancy plans to go to Haiti to donate some items in person in a few weeks. But in the meantime, she’s hoping to raise more donations before heading out.
