Hill County Nonprofit Sends Aid To Haiti Earthquake Victims

Swerville, Ala (Wyatt) – A Hill County nonprofit is sending a team to Haiti to help resupply team members already on the ground helping earthquake victims.

Darla Price, director of operations for the National Society for the Prevention of Hunger (NAPS), spoke with CBS 42 on the school campus in Sawyerville on Tuesday.

“They go out in prayer and pray for life to be restored to where so many lives have been lost in Haiti,” Price said.

The department’s team will depart Thursday from Atlanta and will then head to Haiti with supplies worth $10,000 for team members on the ground.

“We hope we are for the people of Haiti so they know we care. We can’t bring people back or stop the next earthquake, but we can encourage those affected or those who might be frightened,” Price said.

The 7.2-magnitude earthquake on 14 August killed 2,207 people. 344 people are still missing and 12,268 people are injured. Officials say the quake destroyed nearly 53,000 homes.
