On August 14, at 8:30 a.m. local time, a 7.2-magnitude earthquake hit the southwestern coast of Haiti causing widespread damage across the country’s southern peninsula. The powerful 10 km earthquake occurred 13 km southeast of Petit Trudy Nieps, in Nieps County, the same area devastated by Hurricane Matthew in 2016.
