Another earthquake hit Delhi, the fourth in about a month

Delhi was hit by another earthquake today. This is the fourth earthquake to be reported from the National Capital Territory in a month and the second in May. Today’s earthquake was a 2.2-magnitude low-magnitude earthquake that was recorded in the Betambora district of Delhi.

The National Seismology Center (NCS) said that a 2.2-magnitude earthquake struck 13 km northwest of New Delhi today at 11:28 am.

Earlier this month, a moderate earthquake with a magnitude of 3.4 struck the epicenter of the earthquake near Wazirir, northeast of Delhi. The same site and adjacent areas were the epicenter of the earthquakes on April 12 and April 13 with the strength of 3.5 and 2.7 respectively.

Among the five seismic regions, Delhi is located under the fourth region.

Delhi treats earthquakes in a range of two to three degrees frequently. There is no cause for concern because it is a natural phenomenon. In the past ten years, the city has experienced more than 100 earthquakes.

According to the Delhi Disaster Management Authority, earthquakes around Delhi seem to be linked to a major geological structure, known as the Delhi-Hardwar Ridge. It coincides with the extension of the Mount Aravali belt beneath the alluvial plains of the Ganga Basin to the northeast of Delhi towards the Himalayas.
