An earthquake of 6.5 magnitude hits western Nevada

Several aftershocks felt from Utah to California and caused some cracks in US 95, the main highway between Las Vegas and Reno, forcing it to close.

Las Vegas – The main highway between Las Vegas and Reno was damaged and closed early Friday after a 6.5-magnitude earthquake in the remote Nevada region that the researcher named the state’s largest earthquake in 65 years.

There were no immediate reports of casualties, but state soldiers and honorable deputies from the provinces of Esmeralda, Mineral and Nye examined highways for possible damage.

People from Salt Lake City to Central Valley, California, tweeted that they felt this way.

“She was shaken, but it wasn’t that much,” said Captain David Borochowitz, Nai police chief in Pahrump. No damage was reported at Mizpah and Clown Motel, two prominent companies in Tonopah, a historic mining town midway between Las Vegas and Reno.

Keith Hasty, an employee of a petrol station in Tonopah, told grocery stores in the Las Vegas Review Journal that the shelves had been shaken, and residents visiting the store said televisions had been shaken.
