11 firefighters escape by fireball in an explosion in downtown Los Angeles – NBC Los Angeles

Eleven firefighters were burned when they fled a burning building by a fireball on Saturday in downtown Los Angeles.

All the injured firefighters were expected to survive. They were inside the building located in Building 300 on East Boyd Street around 6:30 pm. When the live blast shook South Little Tokyo.

The Lebanese army captain, Eric Scott, said that the explosion created a fireball that continued to grow to a height of 30 feet and a width of at least 30 feet. The witnesses video showed smoke and smoke rising from the building.

“Firefighters had to go straight through this flame ball to reach safety across the street,” said Scott.

“It was a great earthquake when it exploded,” said eyewitness Rick Serafin. “It felt like an earthquake. It was huge.”

All 11 firefighters will remain in hospital overnight for observation and all are expected to survive their injuries, said Dr. Mark Eckstein, the LAFD medical director and doctor at the center.

Eckstein said they all arrived at the hospital awake and alert, but two firefighters were put on fans due to smoke inhalation and four were sent to the burn intensive care unit. He said that most of the burns were at the extremities.

“Everything is stable at this time,” the doctor said.

“The good news is that everyone will succeed,” Garcetti said, but added: “We have a lot of firefighters who have been shaken.”
