Coronavirus Warning: Continuous cuts in local services without emergency funding – BBC News
The leaders of some of the largest councils in England have appealed to the government for emergency financial assistance to prevent them from failing in the pandemic.
The Council of Deputies Network says without a 5 billion euro income guarantee, many non-essential services will have to be cut. It could also affect care providers based on council funding.
He warned as head of the Office of Budget Responsibility that the UK economy is unlikely to return to previous levels of activity when the coronavirus pandemic is under control.
