The residents of Dandridge and Jefferson County began Saturday morning when a small earthquake shook the area.

The earthquake occurred at 3:39 a.m. about 7 kilometers north of Dandridge, near Sam Martin Road, according to the United States Geological Survey website.

The earthquake was at a depth of 15.4 km and was 18 km from Morristown.

The eastern seismic zone extends from Tennessee through Tennessee and northwestern Georgia to northeastern Alabama.
