People living in and around Chincholi in the Kalaburagi region were awakened by a mild earthquake measuring 2.5 on the Richter scale, just 24 hours after feeling the first shock.

But officials said there was no loss of life or damage to any property.

They added that the earthquake hit Jadikshwar village and surrounding areas, where people panicked and rushed out of their homes.

According to the Karnataka Center for Natural Disaster Monitoring, the epicenter was the village of Manyarpalli in the Sangaredi district of Telangana, which is located “near Karnataka”.

“The epicenter of the earthquake was 1.9 km northeast of Shivarampur village in Chincholi Taluk in Kalaburagi,” KSNDMC said in a statement.

This is the fourth earthquake in the North Karnataka region in the last 11 days.

The first two tremors occurred on 1 and 5 October near Pasavakalian in Bidar district, which is close to Latur and Killary in the neighboring state of Maharashtra, which faced the worst earthquake in September 1993 killing many people.

It is learned that the Kalaburagi District Administration has written to the Department of Mines and Geology to study the earthquake wave in the area.

Already, the Department of Minerals Management of Karnataka has instructed geologists to study the phenomena and ascertain the existence of any turbulent region in terms of geological events in the past.

The management also decided to conduct an awareness campaign to deal with the situation in the event of a major untoward incident.
