Julian Assange, the man behind Wikileaks, says he is the victim of a U.S. conspiracy to punish him for exposing alleged U.S. war crimes. Assange created Wikileaks in 2006 to reveal secrets he and others were supposed to reveal, including alleged U.S. war crimes in Iraq and Afghanistan. But the U.S. says the leaks broke the law and put lives at risk. Assange sought asylum at the London embassy in Ecuador to avoid deportation. He remained there for almost 7 years until he was deported and arrested. A UK district court judge had blocked his extradition after his lawyer told the court that the risk of suicide would be “immediate at the time the extradition is likely to take place”.
