Teen completes marathon to help Nepal earthquake victims

A former student at Monmouth Schools Haberdashers has completed her first marathon to help people living in earthquake-devastated areas of Nepal.

Mount Tatjana finished the Manchester Marathon in four hours and 30 minutes in extremely hot and humid conditions.

The teenager, who lives near Abergavenny, has raised more than £1,250 for the Raleigh International Trust and will take part in his seven-week trip in Nepal in March.

Tatjana’s family has close ties to the Gurkhas, with both her father and grandfather serving in the tenth Gurkha rifles.

“In 2015, my sister and I took on our first ever challenge, the Spartan Race, to help the victims of the devastating earthquake that struck Nepal that year and devastated lives, livelihoods and opportunities for future generations.”

Tatjana is currently taking a gap year before taking her place at UCL (University College London) to read a degree in Politics, Sociology and Eastern European Studies with Russian.

During the seven-week expedition in Nepal in March, Tatjana and her team will build water sanitation points in Gorkha, an area that was severely damaged in the 2015 earthquake.

Tatiana said: “A small team of 16 of us will work hard to increase the resilience of communities to weather extremes and other natural disasters, while providing diverse livelihoods for the poor and disadvantaged, with a special focus on women, children and youth.
