Americans who can’t read – BBC News
The U.S. has more illiterate citizens — about 16 million people — than most developed members. Why is that?
Many complain that the system is failing those who need it the most help and that there is a big gap between rich and poor.
Being illiterate prevents people from getting a job. But it’s not just that.
Peggy Fleming, in one of the best situations she lives in Kentucky, said she wanted to set an example for her children by being able to read and write. “I wanted to be a better mom,” she explains.
