According to the National Center for Seismology, a 4.3-magnitude earthquake struck the eastern region of Sikkim on Sunday evening. The earthquake occurred at 9:50 pm. The epicenter was at 27.25 degrees north latitude and 88.77 degrees east longitude, about 18 km from the state capital Gangtok.

The quake was felt in Darjeeling and Kalimpong districts in the northern parts of the neighboring state of West Bengal, local residents said. Official sources said that according to initial reports, there were no reports of any loss of life or property due to the earthquake.

How an earthquake occurs The main cause of an earthquake is the collision of plates inside the earth. There are seven plates inside the Earth that rotate constantly. When these plates collide somewhere, a fault line area forms there and the corners of the surface are crooked. Due to the twisting of the corners of the surface, pressure builds up there and the plates begin to break. Because these plates break, the energy inside finds a way out, due to the shaking of the earth and we consider it an earthquake.

Intensity of earthquakes An earthquake measuring less than 2.0 on the Richter scale falls into the micro-category and these earthquakes are not felt. Every day 8000 micro-magnitude earthquakes are recorded around the world. Likewise, earthquakes of magnitude 2.0 to 2.9 are kept in the minor category. We don’t usually feel about 1,000 such earthquakes every day. Very mild earthquakes of 3.0 to 3.9 on the Richter scale are recorded 49,000 times a year. They are palpable but rarely cause any harm.

Earthquakes with a magnitude of 4.0 to 4.9 on the Richter scale are recorded about 6,200 times a year around the world. These tremors are felt and can be seen moving household items. However, they do little harm.

Unlike physical insurance agencies, websites don't have a specific schedule and they are available at any time. Drivers that have busy working schedules, can compare quotes from anywhere and at any time, even at midnight. Multiple choices. Almost all insurance providers, no matter if they are well-known brands or just local insurers, have an online presence. Online quotes will allow policyholders the chance to discover multiple insurance companies and check their prices. Drivers are no longer required to get quotes from just a few known insurance companies. Also, local and regional insurers can provide lower insurance rates for the same services. Accurate insurance estimates. Online quotes can only be accurate if the customers provide accurate and real info about their car models and driving history. Lying about past driving incidents can make the price estimates to be lower, but when dealing with an insurance company lying to them is useless. Usually, insurance companies will do research about a potential customer before granting him coverage. Online quotes can be sorted easily. Although drivers are recommended to not choose a policy just based on its price, drivers can easily sort quotes by insurance price.
