Honoring Utah Veterans for Their Service and Sacrifice

SALT LAKE CITY – Governor Spencer Cox and Senator Mitt Romney spent part of Veterans Day honoring Utah members of the military for their service.

At a ceremony at the University of Utah, they presented medals to 11 service members for acts of bravery, service careers, and other accomplishments. The ceremony included a 21-shot salute on campus.

In his remarks, Governor Cox thanked all Utah veterans for their service. He noted that some were called in last year to deal with earthquake, storm, civil unrest and epidemic.

He said, “Respond as you always do. With love in your hearts, with a strong back to bear the burden.” “You’ve come to save us. You’ve done it over and over again. And you’ll do it again when we need you.”

Senator Romney said he would like to see more young people enlist, as do members of the military.

“I think it would be great if all the young people in our country were able to serve in the army or for some other cause that distanced them from themselves,” he said. “So that we can recognize again, the degree of sacrifice and commitment of those who served and who allowed us to live the lives we live.”
