A 5.9-magnitude earthquake struck Hedland Harbor

The earthquake shook the residents of Hedland Harbor.

The earthquake, measuring 5.9 on the Richter scale, occurred around 9.05 pm, 125 km southeast of the town of Pilbara.

Residents reported that they felt the ground “wasted” for several seconds but there were no early reports of damage.

Local bar manager Last Chance Tavern, David Paddington, said the quake lasted for 20 seconds, and watched “beer tap lines swaying.”

“It was the biggest earthquake I’ve ever felt in my life,” he said, “so it was very reasonable.”

“All the liquor bottles in the back bar were swaying.

“It was pretty big, and it lasted for a while.”

Despite the impact, Mr Paddington said he didn’t notice everyone inside the pub at the time of the quake, joking that he and his staff were the only ones to do so because they were “the only ones who were vigilant”.

“It took me a second,” he said, “but a bartender picked it up right away and it got wrapped up a bit.”

“When customers told us they were a little surprised. Nobody seemed to notice.”

About 30 minutes after the earthquake, SES’s Hedland unit had yet to receive a call for help, indicating that there may not be significant damage in the area.

Volcano Discovery reported that the earthquake occurred about 17 kilometers from Marble Bar at a “shallow depth” of about 10 kilometers.

“Shallow earthquakes are more strongly felt than deep earthquakes because they are closer to the surface,” its website says.

Newman’s woman, Kimba Barry, who took a recording when the quake struck, said she heard a “deep bang.” “It was very loud,” she said.

“We thought maybe it was something in the mine but then it lasted for a very long time.

“The rumbling got stronger and the windows were rattling like crazy.

“My dogs were so confused.”

Resident Emily Cleaver said she was lying on the sofa when she felt the house shake around 9 p.m.

“I initially looked out the window, and thought there was a street sweeper or something,” she said.

“Obviously we get blasts all the time, but it was the middle of the night so it wasn’t a blast.”

Ms Cleaver said the shaking lasted about a minute, with window frames shaking.

“You could hear a gurgle,” she said.

Swimming teacher Zac de Ruyter returned to his chalet after a few beers when he also sensed the ground was moving.

He said, “Suddenly the ground started shaking, I thought it was an SUV or a plane flying overhead.”

“The ground kept shaking for 30 seconds to a minute.”

Mr. De Ruyter said he remembered being advised as a teenager to stay in the hallway during the earthquake and to go to stand outside.

“I saw a large number of people carrying torches when asked what was going on, it was a very strange experience. He said.

Western Power has not reported any power outages in the area.
