VISAKHAPATNAM: Light shivers shook most parts of Visakhapatnam at 7.14am. Panicked people ran out of their homes.

People residing in tall buildings and apartments rushed to leave their homes in Sagar Nagar, MVP Colony, Bida Waltir, Waun Town, Akyayapalm, Kancharrapalim, Nad, Gajuaka and Vipsjenta.

After the tremors, people started calling their friends about the accident. A housewife at MVP Colony said she rushed to the balcony as soon as she heard a loud noise to find out what had happened. In most places, people have been in basements or open places for some time for fear of aftershocks

When called, Hurricane Warning Center officials said they were waiting for a secondary report. Before the tremors, there was a loud noise. According to reports, the epicenter was 7.5 km northeast of Jaguaca. The tremors lasted for about three seconds.

Mild tremors were felt earlier in parts of Vizag on August 24 after a 5.1-magnitude earthquake in the Bay of Bengal, 250 km south-southeast off Razul and 330 km east off Ongole.
