A series of earthquakes rocks parts of Assam, Haryana and Rajasthan

On Saturday, earthquakes were felt in parts of Assam, Rajasthan and Haryana.

A 4.1-magnitude earthquake rocked parts of Assam, including its largest city, Guwahati, on Saturday afternoon.

The quake, whose epicenter was in the Kamrup district, hit the state at 1.12 p.m., according to data from the National Seismology Center.

The tremor of the quake, which occurred at a depth of 10 km, was felt throughout Guwahati City and its vicinity.

No report of loss of life or property damage has been received so far.

The northeastern region is located in a high seismic zone, which makes earthquakes a frequent phenomenon in the region. A 6.4-magnitude earthquake hit Assam and parts of the country’s northeast on April 28, causing damage to several buildings.

In the state of Haryana, the National Seismology Center said a 2.9-magnitude earthquake hit Sonpat on Saturday.

“The earthquake occurred at 1:09 pm at a depth of seven kilometers,” she added.

Earlier on Tuesday, the Gandhinagar-based Earthquake Research Institute (ISR) said a 4.1-magnitude earthquake struck Rajasthan near its border with Banaskantha in Gujarat state.

The earthquake, whose epicenter was near Somarpur in the Bali district of Rajasthan, was recorded around 7:25 pm at a depth of 10 km.

Pakistan’s intelligence agency said in its update that the epicenter was 136 kilometers north-northeast of Palanpur, the headquarters of Banaskantha district.

Banaskantha district officials said there were no reports of property damage or loss of life in Gujarat.
