DoST supports NDRRMC in nationwide virtual earthquake drills

The National Council for Disaster Risk Reduction and Management (NDRRMC), through the Office of Civil Defense (OCD), concluded this year’s series of online simultaneous earthquake exercises nationwide with the Quarter 4 earthquake exercise on November 11 with the support of the Ministry of Science and Technology (DoST). ).

The virtual exercise took place at 8 am and was broadcasted live via OCD (Civil Defense PH) and NDRRMC’s social media pages.

Participants who watched the live broadcast performed the “duck, cover and hold” exercises indoors and only in their institutions. As part of Quarter 4 of the Nationally Synchronized Earthquake Training (NSED), a webinar for disaster preparedness for people with disabilities (PWD), victims of disasters and calamities, and fishermen, including tabletop and outreach exercises for San Antonio Zambales, attended by DRRMC was conducted for Zambales County and DRRMC Regional in Central Luzon on November 9 and 10, respectively.

Meanwhile, the DoST-Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (DoST-Phivolcs) broadcasts the following major seismic and tsunami monitoring facilities: the main office of the Phivolcs Data Receiving Center (DRC) in Quezon City, the Tagaytay Mirror Center in Tagaytay City, and Mindanao Earthquake and Tsunami Center cluster in Davao City.
