Two strong earthquakes shake southern Iran | News

Two earthquakes with a magnitude of 6.4 and 6.3 struck Hormozgan Province and adjacent areas in southern Iran, killing two people and injuring 27 others in Hormozgan Province, Mehr Agency reported.

The Iranian Seismological Center stated that the 6.4-magnitude quake occurred at 3:36 pm local time (12:06 GMT) and its epicenter was located at 26.8 degrees north latitude and 55.9 degrees east longitude, at a depth of 18 kilometers.

On Sunday, Iranian media reported that the earthquake hit the southern province of Hormozgan.

And the media reported that “the latest figures show the death of two people after the earthquake, while the number of injured rose to 27.”

The seismological center said that the earthquake hit Qeshm Island in the Strait of Hormuz, 1,000 kilometers south of the Iranian capital, Tehran.

The epicenter was located about 60 km southwest of Bandar Abbas port in Hormozgan Province.

There were no immediate reports of damage or injuries. The United States Geological Survey (USGS) determined the earthquake as a magnitude 6.3.

The earthquake was followed by a 6.3 62 km earthquake northwest of Bandar Abbas, a port city and capital of Hormozgan, on the Persian Gulf.

The state television said that the quake was felt in the provinces of Kerman and Fars, located in the northern province of Hormozgan.

According to regional media, the strength of the earthquake was so strong that it could be felt in the United Arab Emirates and Saudi Arabia.

So far, several aftershocks have affected the region, the largest of which was 4.5 on the Richter scale.

On the sidelines of a meeting of his cabinet, the Iranian President, Ebrahim Raisi, after learning of the earthquakes that occurred in the south of the country, issued an order for an immediate investigation into the conditions in the affected cities.
