Three earthquakes shake Mandi and Shimla in Himachal Pradesh overnight

No loss of life or damage to property was reported in any of the three incidents in Himachal Pradesh which is in the highly sensitive seismic zone.

A series of three earthquakes hit Mandi and Shimla districts of Himachal Pradesh on Tuesday evening and early Wednesday.

The first earthquake, which measured 3.9 on the Richter scale, was felt by residents at 10.02 pm on Tuesday. The epicenter of the earthquake was in the Mandi region, at a depth of 10 km.

This was followed by another 2.5-magnitude tremor at 2.21 am on Wednesday morning. The earthquake occurred at a depth of 5 km and was centered in Shimla.

The third earthquake occurred at 2.33 am. Its strength was 2.2 on the Richter scale. The epicenter of the earthquake was in Shimla, at a depth of 5 km.

No casualties or property losses were reported in any of the three incidents.

Himachal Pradesh is located in a highly sensitive seismic zone. The area has felt a series of small earthquakes over the past few days. The largest earthquake ever to hit the Himalayas was on April 4, 1905. The 7.8-magnitude earthquake devastated the entire Kangra Valley and left 20,000 people dead.
