The men and women of the Power Generation Center joined local dignitaries and community leaders to celebrate the 10th anniversary of female circumcision in a “Decade of Excellence” ceremony at Robins Air Force Base, Georgia, in October.

The FGC is the only Air Reserve Command organization responsible for creating all combat-ready forces. The FGC was also awarded the Air Force Organizational Excellence Award during the event.

“We have responded to hurricanes, earthquakes and wildfires, all to protect American lives and take care of the pilots,” said Maj. Gen. Matthew Berger, deputy commander of the Armed Forces Revolutionary Council.

Seeing female genital mutilation was born out of need. In 2010, one of the worst earthquakes in 200 years struck Haiti, causing an estimated $14 billion in damages and killing more than 316,000 Haitians. In response, several reserve air force pilots and resources were activated to lead the humanitarian effort. This effort, called Operation Unified Response, indicated the need for more operational oversight of AFRC personnel in support of emergency and crisis operations.

On October 1, 2011, the Supreme Council of the Armed Forces activated the FGC with the mission of seamlessly joining citizen pilots to volunteer, mobilize and deploy while meeting the requirements of the Fighter Commander.

The current commander of the FGC, Brig. Major General Stacy Scarsbrick presented the team’s accomplishments during her remarks.

“A decade of excellence. Although this may seem for a relatively short period of time, I assure you, when you think about it against the work that the Center has done in the past ten years, this achievement certainly deserves recognition.”

FGC leads all aspects of force formation to include oversight, visibility, and accountability for more than 70,000 Air Reserve Forces. The FGC’s mission also includes an improved command and control function of the Armed Forces Revolutionary Council.

In the past 10 years, FGC has supported more than 166,000 off-station training missions, flew more than 1 million hours, transported more than 765,000 passengers and transported nearly 900,000 tons of cargo. FGC has helped mobilize more than 72,000 national reserve pilots to support mobilization requirements.

Most recently, the FGC activated Reserve Forces to assist with medical support and recovery for COVID-19 and to assist in the evacuation of Americans and Afghans at risk from Afghanistan.

“What a better example than the pandemic where we moved 250 medical professionals with specific medical capabilities within 48 hours to New York to protect and save American lives,” Burger said. When the country literally collapsed, our forces quickly rallied to the point of need and generated an airlift force to redeploy our mission partners—partners we promised to bring back to America.”

Just last year, the FGC carried out 19,000 missions, including 32,000 flights. The center oversaw 167 Hurricane Hunter flights and supported more than 180 aerial spray missions.
