A magnitude 3.7 earthquake strikes near Oeldel

On Tuesday evening, a 3.7-magnitude earthquake struck about 3 miles southeast of Oildale and its epicenter is near Kern Medical, according to initial reports.

The earthquake hit the population at 9:52 pm. It felt as much as Lake Isabela, according to the American Geological Survey.

It was initially reported as a 3.6-magnitude earthquake but was upgraded to 3.7 minutes later.

Hundreds have gone to social media to describe the sharp jolt, as many have said they can’t tell if an earthquake, blast, or truck passes nearby. Some said that the car felt as if it had hit their house.

Council member Andre Gonzales posted on Facebook that he had received a letter from the city director stating that staff would be subject to a safety inspection protocol as a result of the earthquake.

On Saturday, a 1.6-magnitude earthquake struck about 6.5 miles southwest of Lamont, according to the US Geological Survey, and crusts of 3.5 and 3.8 struck near Ridgecrest on Sunday morning.

It was July 4 last year when a 6.4-magnitude earthquake rocked Ridgecrest, followed the next day by a 7.1-magnitude earthquake and dozens of aftershocks.
