NCT members apologize for ‘insensitive’ actions amid earthquake alert

21 out of the 23 members of NCT officially made a comeback on Tuesday.

The all-male K-pop group dropped Universe on the said day, marking their third studio album release.

The official videos for three titles surfaced a few days ago. These are Dreaming, Miracle, and Earthquake, which have Dream and WayV subunits and 127 performers, respectively.

To celebrate the group’s full comeback, they held a live broadcast titled NCT Universe Countdown Live. After the engagement, though, some members received criticism for behaving inappropriately and “insensitively”.

AllKpop said the NCT members involved in the controversy quickly took their apologies to social media. They wrote letters of apology and posted them on Instagram.

Doyoung appears to be taking the blame as he has stated that it is “his complete fault and there is no excuse for him”. He apologized to those who felt uncomfortable and hurt and assured them that he would prevent the same mistake.

Mark shared a similar message saying he was sorry for the way he acted during the live post. He noted that he did not understand the situation, causing him to display “a careless and insensitive behaviour”.

However, the K-pop idol stressed that he will “reflect himself deeply.”

As for Johnny, he said he was sorry for “recklessly supporting him” during the live comeback. He told his followers that he would “think and act with greater caution in the future.”

What happened during the live broadcast

NME remembered what happened during the December 14 live broadcast. It reported that during the clash, a 4.9-magnitude earthquake hit Jeju Island.

After this phenomenon, an earthquake emergency alert rang out on the employees’ smartphones informing the public of the event. Amid the alarm bell, three members of NCT linked the actual earthquake to their newly launched path, the earthquake.
