A magnitude-3.7 earthquake shook homes and buildings across Monterey County Thursday afternoon in the latest earthquake to affect the Central Coast.

Thursday’s quake centered from an area 10 miles northwest of Pinnacles National Park, a similar area to another magnitude-3.7 sized earthquake last October.

The initial earthquake was at 12:19 p.m. with tremors from it reaching across the county within minutes. It was slightly deeper than the quake in October — 7.7 miles to 6.2 — but also originated along the surface trace of the San Andreas Fault.

Soledad, Gonzalez and south county residents felt a more intense shaking from the earthquake, according to the US Geological Survey (USGS), compared to Salinas and north county residents.

Tremors from the earthquake reached as far north as Scotts Valley. Readers can share their experiences at usgs.gov.
