Shikabalapura: An earthquake shakes the limbs

Two small villages in Shikabalapura district, on the border with Bengaluru, felt slight tremors from the Wednesday morning quake, with slight cracks appearing in a few buildings and villagers hearing loud noises. The Karnataka State Natural Disaster Management Monitoring Center (KSNDMMC) confirmed that the earthquakes, which it recorded were around 2.9 and 3 on the Richter scale, in two villages respectively.

The first earthquake occurred around 7.10 am in the Mandikal gram panchayat in Chikkaballapura Taluk. The magnitude of the earthquake was recorded by KSNDMMC with a magnitude of 2.9 and the depth was about 11 km, the epicenter was 1.5 km from Hoshali village in Mandikal Gram Panchayat and 1.6 km from Dodhihali village in Adagalu Gram Panchayat, both of which are in Chikapalapura Taluk.

The second earthquake occurred around 7.14 am in Bhojaparthi village in Adagalu Gram Panchayat. KSNDMMC recorded a magnitude of 3 on the Richter scale and the depth was about 23 km. The epicenter was 1.23 km from Pandahali village in Modinhali gram panchayat and 2.18 km from Aroor gram panchayat, both in Shikabalapura. Mandikal gram panchayat is a larger hamlet – population around 1,000 – but Bhogaparthi village in Addagallu gram panchayat is a very small village with 250 villagers.
