Small earthquake in Shikabalapur district of Karnataka state for the second day in a row

According to the National Center for Seismology, Chikkaballapur experienced an earthquake measuring 3.6 on the Richter scale at 2.16 pm.

On Wednesday morning, the region witnessed two successive light earthquakes that hit parts of Shikabalapura. The epicenter of the earthquakes, which measured 2.9 on the Richter scale and three on the Richter scale, were around 7.10 a.m. and 7.15 a.m. near the villages of Mandikal and Bugaparthi, according to the KSNDMC.

For Wednesday’s earthquake, KSNDMC said that according to a seismic intensity map of the earthquakes from the epicenter, the observed intensity was low and tremors may have been felt up to a maximum radial distance of 10 km to 15 km.

The district of Vijayapura in Karnataka state experienced six minor earthquakes in the month of October alone. Similar incidents were also reported in Hassan and Klaburaji districts. Due to the high incidence of these events in and around Vijayapura district, the state government had earlier considered setting up a sub-committee to conduct an in-depth study.
