4.8 magnitude earthquake hits Quetta and other parts of Balochistan

People came out of their homes and shops in fear after a 4.8-magnitude earthquake jolted parts of Quetta and other areas of Balochistan early on Saturday.

The Bull News reported that tremors were felt in Khanuzai, Bechin and Bustan districts. The quake struck 6 kilometers north of Quetta, according to the United States Geological Survey (USGS).

However, no loss of life or property was reported.

On Friday evening, a 4.2-magnitude earthquake was felt at a depth of 10 km in the Batagram district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

Pakistan sits on top of tectonic plate collision and earthquakes are common.

The 7.7-magnitude earthquake in Quetta in 1935 killed between 30,000 and 60,000 people, and destroyed most of the city.
