Regulators have extended the scheme to pay millions of salaries until October – BBC News
The government will continue to spend millions of pounds on the furlough regime, paying the salaries of millions of workers in the coming months. Chancellor Rishi Suna has vowed to protect the jobs suffered by their employers until October.
Suna said the scheme, in order to prevent massive redundancies, will have to be adjusted as the economy reopens. Employers will have to contribute about 5% of wages from August until they rise by more than 20% before the scheme stops at the end of October.
The program currently supports more than 8.5 million employees who are able to return to part-time work from July. The chancellor has also pledged to extend support to the 2.5 million self-employed people who are now receiving funding until August. The cost of the two schemes is about $ 100 billion.
