A state of emergency has been declared in Kazakhstan, where protests sparked by rising fuel prices have turned to unrest as a result of corruption and authoritarian rule. In the largest city in the country, Almaty, protesters took over the airport and took over government buildings. President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev has said that his government will be removed from office and that the protests will be a harsh response. He has asked Russia for help.
